Blues have still got it all to do
Barcelona’s 6-2 mauling of Madrid in Real’s own back yard at the weekend gives Chelsea plenty of reasons to be fearful ahead of tonight’s clash at Stamford Bridge.
Barca have scored an incredible 100 goals this season - at an average of almost three goals a game - and are now targeting Real's all-time goals record of 107 set back in 1990. With plenty of games to spare to go well beyond.
Chelsea , however, start the second leg of their Champions League semi final as slight favourites after holding the Spanish giants to a goalless draw at the Nou Camp. And, remember, Barcelona have failed to beat Chelsea in the last four meetings between the two clubs.
But Barcelona must be thinking that ‘if we can score six at the Bernabeu, imagine what we can do at the Bridge’. With Messi, Henry and Eto’o rampant anything is possible.
Here are a few stats to whet your appetite ahead of what is sure to be another fascinating night of European football..
• Barcelona and Chelsea are playing against each other for the 10th time in the Champions League.
• In total, Barcelona have won five of the 12 matches played against Chelsea with the West London club winning four.
• The Spaniards’ last win against Chelsea was on February 22, 2006 at Stamford Bridge - Chelsea's only home defeat in 11 matches against Spanish clubs.
• Barcelona have lost 15 of their 29 away matches against English clubs.
• In three of the last four Champions League seasons Barcelona have been knocked out by English clubs: Chelsea (2004-05), Liverpool (2006-07) and Manchester United (2007-08).
• Barcelona have reached the semi-finals for a record equalling sixth time and for the second time in succession.
• They have not lost any of their last five Champions League away matches.
Plenty of warning signs then for Chelsea, but Barcelona will be wary too given Chelsea’s impressive home record. Don’t miss this one!
