When the name of the artist is “Brain star”, how am I supposed to expect much of this song or in fact any song by this artist? Most times, in such situations, I have low expectations. In this case though, I had no expectations. Because, think about it, any artist that can refer to himself as “Brain star” can do anything. The person can decide to be reciting the letters of the English alphabet or quadratic equations and their solutions on the beat…



But enough with the dry jokes, regardless of any expectations of the artist or the song, I have to admit, the production is pretty catchy and dance-able. As for Brain star, his vocal texture would suffice for this style of music but as for his haphazard vocal technique, that cannot be forgiven. As much as he was rushing words, singing, trying to be Terry g and Twista all in one, he now could not sustain his keys or notes and made the song sound so rowdy and very poorly done.



“Gbesumomii” has a catchy hook; but without the production, this artist has shown no promise of any hits, to talk less of more. This is the type of song that can only be played in certain “razz” circles and the DJ would skip through quite quickly at that… the person I listened to this song with said that D’banj also showed no promise outside of Don Jazzy’s production but look at him now. My rebuttal was D’banj’s charisma, use of slang and that element of cool and swag that was not present in the industry during his debut; and, if this will be my only point, his name was not “Brain star”



Brain star did no justice to the production. You and I know that if P-square, or Wizkid even, got this beat, this would be at least a nationwide success; look at “forever” for example. They have better vocal dexterity and technique; in fact, they have a vocal technique to start with, not this mumbling, rap-singing or whatever it was he was doing. He made the beat sound so boring and monotonous. And, even though it is a bit monotonous and of a hackneyed Nigerian niche style; it still has that catchy element that he just wasted. This was a very disappointing listen for me, a waste of my time.
