THE Police Force Disciplinary Committee which spent the whole of last Thursday in vain waiting for the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, may have recommended his dismissal from the police force.

Credible sources told the Nigerian Tribune that as of Monday evening, the committee was compiling its report which is to be submitted to the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, tomorrow.

It was also gathered that Okiro is expected to scrutinise the report and add his own comments before submitting to the Police Service Commission on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Some Niger Deltans are said to have lodged a complaint with the Inspector General of Police over the oil block allegedly allocated to Nuhu Ribadu.

Sources revealed that the said oil block was allegedly a parting gift to Ribadu for allegedly checkmating the activities of the opponents of Obasanjo’s third term bid.

The Niger Deltans were said to be threatening to obstruct oil production if the allocation was not cancelled. Last Thursday, Ribadu was to face the disciplinary panel for, among other things, suing the Inspector-General of Police over his demotion from Assistant Inspector–General of Police (AIG) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and also for his disobedience for not answering the query issued to him by Okiro.

However, DIG Ogbonnaya Onovo and his committee members waited for the whole day at the Police Officers Mess, Kaduna, venue of the sitting without seeing Ribadu.

Although no official reason was given for Ribadu’s absence, a source told newsmen that the former EFCC chairman would not honour the invitation to attend the panel. He was among 105 police officers slated to be tried by the panel for various disciplinary cases.

Ribadu was appointed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the chairman of the EFCC in 2003 and reappointed in 2007, as well as promoting him to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Reacting to the development, Chairman of Conference of Nigerians Political Parties (CNPP), Alhaji Balarabe Musa, said the Yar’Adua’s government had demonstrated that it was not serious about fighting corruption.

Musa said Ribadu was all along being persecuted in order to enable the authorities get rid of evidence in possession of the EFCC against known corrupt ex-government officials.

Nigerians, he said, should not be taken aback if Ribadu was eventually retired of his job, stressing that all the government wanted to prove was that the anti-corruption war is dead in Nigeria.

He said, “The government has gone too far in persecuting Ribadu. If they remove him from office now, nobody should be surprised because we have had enough of their pretenses about fighting corruption.”

A Lagos lawyer, Mr. Fred Agbaje, said the police had the power to discipline Ribadu if he contravened the regulation of police. “This is because Ribadu is like any other civil servant in the country who must obey the rules of civil service. But my fear is that this guy has already sued the police. Now that the case is in court, I doubt if the police or the Federal Government can sack him,” he said.

Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo, has advised Ribadu to resign from the police first and then fight them back if it was true that he had been recommended for dismissal.

According to him, “he should first of all resign from the police and fight them, he should join people like us, it will not be possible for him to remain within that organisation and fight the system.”

He further stated that “there should be no sentiment about this issue. If it is true that he has been recommended for dismissal, he has to quit when the ovation is loudest, he should not be intimidated, he should should not disobey those who asked him to go, he comply with the rules and regulations of the police force, he has to obey them since he is still within that organisation.”

Good for him....Lets be sincere with ourselves naija has always been a country where ''Dog eat Dog'' Ribadu has done his share of the spoils and now he is paying the price just like the Al-mustaphas of the world..  Some people may feel this is a negative view not supporting Ribadu but the issue is far away from that.  My personal opinion about Ribadu and EFCC at the time of Obasanjo was that of a very good tool and opportunity to set this country at the right footing in terms of fighting corruption and restroring good governance.

They started quite well but along the line use it as personal tool to intimadate and strangle percieved enermies and opponents of their government or policies, these made me away from beign a supporter of Ribadu whom i was at the beginning of his appointment.  Ribadu allowed himself to be distracted by Obasanjo in the process allowing or ignoring thousand of corrupt leaders both governors and legistlators and pursuing others (selective justice) and these made him loose my vote and symphathy.  I feel nemesis is now catching up with him for betraying the nigerian masses whom he had opportunity to protect by stopping and exposing corrupt leaders at all levels.

Let us be sincere, Ribadu fought a good fight for Nigeria. Ex governors that emptied the state treasury went to detention. We will not fold our arms and see these corrupt people in government do all the rubbish they are doing. They are not happy with Ribadu because he dealt with his former boss( Tafa Balogun ). Tafa Balogun, we all knew that he stole money and had to pay for it, Ribadu, shouldn't be used as a scape goat for dealing with his former boss.

Ribadu's case is nothing but NEMESIS, he allowed himself to be used by Obasanjo and deal with all anti-third term politician, so i know very sure that his time is coming but i thought its gonna be long but i now know that we are in a Jet age, i have no pity for him anyway let him face the panel and whatever outcome i know he would accept it with fate, at least Obasanjo has made life comfortable for prisoner so he said.... lol

irrespective of our diverse views of this man, major part of nigerians and the international community
agrees that this man did a good job myself included. Nobody is a saint so there is always places 4 shortcomings
bt i honestly believe this man deserve all this, all this witch-hunt is b'cus of all those moneybags and ogas
he dealt  with when he was in office, but we should be celebrating this man instead of trying to hang him.

Who else will take the mantle if we always let it end like this. NIGERIANS THINK .  Sad

Hmmm mallam Ribadu, I heard that the fear of Ribadu is the beginning of wisdom to 419, crooks that want to empty our treasury for their selfish use.

Well this guy work very hard to fight some bad guys, but nevertheless he was use as a tool to clear the way for the present administration after third term bid fail, but people say the evil men do live after they die, but now follow them.

I disagree with the way his been mishandle, demoted if anyone has something against him they should bring forth the evidence.

Ribadu have step on some big toes and he should have seen the hand on the wall
When he was remove from efcc chairman, but he waited to see himself pull down.

Stop it! Ribadu most not be use as ..............................................you know it!

Well lte me not say wat they are doing to him now is very wrong. You might say they are wrong. But for me serve him right.
I think both Obasanjo and IBB have been using Ribadu for a very long time and he has been so dumb to notice it.This men(OBJ and IBB) are inteligent officers in the army. They know how to handle Nigeria.
Obj knew if he  hd sum2 fighting against corruption that  the masses will think he is a good leader and will not think he is a bad egg.
so he brought ribadu to do his very first doings, just as IBB did to Nigeria in 1985.It is still the same till.We will still continue to suffer because we he masses do not know what we want. They gave us Ribadu who was just a mere tool to open way for the ex military officers to loot money carefreely.
If he was righteous, why didn't he first take his own father  to prison, Or he shoukd tell us where him papa take get money to buy those houses for Ikoyi.
Let them behead him if they like. All I know that in Nigeria of today, we have Vagaborns in power and we are too weak to face them.
Sorry if this hurt but Ribadu is the greatest fool of all time.He though OBJ was using him for a good course, but the OBJ of a man is too wise,He only use Ribadu to get what he wanted and he took them.Nigeria wanted a way to reduce corruption, but instead they increase corruption.
Do you know that  in 2000, we have few youths who know much about this YAHOO YAHOO stuff, But check thos days even some1 in PRIMARY 4 will tell you how to do YAHOO, Because of the knowledge ribadu gave them tru  its numerous publication and awareness.
It is now this corruption is yielding more fruit.
RIBADU SHOULD BE HANGED FOR CORRUPTION AWARENESS TO THE YOUTHS Huh?

To say people are sentimental about the dismissal of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu is to miss the whole points, because it is like saying Nigeria which this man once claimed to serve is sentimental.

In fact ,i wonder why some guys are unnecessarily sympathetic to Ribadu. This man dined with the devils but forgot to use long spoons. While Obasanjo was using him to whitch hunt other people,Ribadu(like the rest of OBJ boys and girls--El-Rufai,Obbye.t.c-with likely exception of Ngozi who was shown the way out when she could no longer dance to Baba's tune) became power drunk...So how can we now say Nigeria is unfair to Ribadu? If he has no case to answer, you can't tell me that every Nigerian will be watching him getting maltreated...So guys what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander,Ribadu is just a single human variable in Nigeria. If found guilty of any wrong doing, let him be purnished...This is a man claiming to be fighting Corruption and allowed hiself to be promoted to the Rank of AIG when he should ordinarily be Assistant Commissioner of Police...so was he not naive to have allowed the Old man from Otta Farm to use him for deals that have now backfired?

Please Tinblue,Mackee,Gentlesam555 and the rest of Ribadu apologist ,find time to do your findings about this man called Ribadu...I am not saying he did nothing ion the fights against corruption, but whenever the instrumentality of double standard holds sway(which is a normal life style for OBJ)failure is always the end results...  I had a reason to pose a question to Mallam Ribadu and formaer PRO of EFCC in 2006
when they visited Obafemi Awolowo University,Ife on why the commission has failed to arraign Gen.IBB.Thier response was that they did not have evidence that IBB stole Nigerian money even in the face of widespread evidence...When OBJ was campaigning for Yar'Adua and Agagu in Ondo state last year,he " I have warned Mimiko not to leave PDP but now that he has left we will hand him over to EFCC,because he committed financial crimes while in office but we have been helping him".This is to say that Efcc and Ribadu were mere weapons used by OBJ for selfish ends....

To conclude,he who kills by the sword shall also be killed by the sword

If the reason why the EFCC was set was allowed to take its course then Ribadu would have ridden the political sector of all the corrupt thugs who now parrade themselve as crusaders of due process. He started well but allowed obasanjo to use him. The few corrupt ones they left becaue of third term have now become the stumbling block. What a pity!

For me, he did his best for the nation and it all depends on what angle we all are viewing it from.if one of us happens to be a relative to one of this crooks that was made to face the law by Ribadu,we might not even want him to be sacked alone but........................
let us just learn a lesson from his situation so that one day when we also happens to hold a position close to the one he handled,we will not be used and dumped.

Dismissing Ribadu from the Nigerian Police force to be sincere with ourself is not the best because He has done alot to help this Country in the past years so Nigeria is not espected to pay him bad for good, this can still be done to any Nigerian in the nearest future because it is becoming part of Nigeria culture.
