A trigger-happy unidentified mobile policeman has shot dead a 24-year old man, Obehi Abu, a politician in Benin City, Edo State, Southsouth Nigeria.

The mopol reportedly shot Abu twice on the leg and chest during an argument at a restaurant at Ihama Street, GRA, Benin City in the early hours of Monday.

Abu had visited the restaurant in company of his girlfriend, Chinasor and another friend named Obikelu.

P.M.NEWS learnt there was a hot exchange of words when at about 2 a.m the Mopol attached to the restaurant ordered Abu and his friends to leave the place.

As the deceased’s girlfriend, Chinasor was pleading with the Mopol, Abu intervened asking him why they were asked to leave the restaurant at such an odd time.

In anger, the Mopol cocked his gun and shot Abu twice.

He was rushed to Mayo Clinic, Benin, but he was rejected because of his critical condition. Abu was later pronounced dead at the Central Hospital, Sapele Road, Benin.

Friends of the late Abu have called on the Oba of Benin, Omonoba Erediauwa and Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole to ensure that the erring Mopol was brought to justice.

The spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Awara Ejiroro confirmed the incident but referred P.M.NEWS to the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mrs. Titilope Otukoya who said she was not aware of the incident.

However, relations and friends of the late Abu and some officers of the state Police Command have confirmed that the killer Mopol had been arrested and was being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Benin City.

We all know that eventually the mopol will walk free, its just a matter of time, and thats what lawlessness does to Nigerians. Now, that brings me to the observation that pride and stupidity has gotten so much hold on Nigerians in Nigeria. Knowing what prevails in the country, why on earth will you jump up and argue with a trigger-happy mopol in a country were uniformed, armed and dangerous individuals prawl. There are chances he could have made it home safely that night if being robbed on the way home was his concern. Sorry, am not blaming the dead, but I do hope people will learn how to take care of themselves in a country where no one cares. RIP bros.
