ACN aspirant found dead inside car in Ogun

Another deadly Nigerian political tale

A chairmanship aspirant under the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria, (CAN) in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, Mr. Tolani Odunlami, was on Sunday found dead in his car in Ijebu-Ode.

 
The late Odunlami was said to be hale and hearty before he went out in his car from Odogbolu to Ijebu-Ode, where he was later found dead.

Daily Sun reliably gathered that the late aspirant’s father is currently the vice chairman of the (ACN) in the council area where he had wished to contest before his sudden death.

Tolani’s lifeless body was discovered on Moborode Road, not too far from a popular cybercafe in Ijebu-Ode, with the seat belt around him as he sat behind the steering wheel with the doors of the car firmly locked.

Eyewitness account told Daily Sun that Tolani’s corpse was discovered by some people, who were going to the mosque early in the morning.

One of them, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “Initially, we thought he was drunk and was probably sleeping inside the car. But when we returned from the mosque later in the day at about 8.35am and still saw him there and moved closer, we later discovered that he was dead. We raised the alarm, which attracted neighbours, who later alerted the police.”

It was further learnt that the doors of the car were forced opened by the police, who removed Tolani’s corpse to the mortuary while the car was towed to the Igbeba Police Station.

Although the family of the late politician was willing to take the remains of their relation for burial, the police were insisting that autopsy must first be conducted before the burial.

A police officer, who spoke with Daily Sun on condition of anonymity, however, confirmed the incident, which he described as mysterious.

“We sympathise with the family but the right thing must be done. Although there was no mark found on his body when we forced the doors open, we can’t just release his corpse like that. We must carry out autopsy on the body before we release his corpse to his family.”
