2 soldiers die in another bloody Boko Haram clash

Two soldiers died on Tuesday night in Maiduguri following a bloody attack between the military personnel and armed men suspected to be members the of Boko Haram at the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) Church, Simari in the state capital.

There was also a gun battle between the sect and soldiers deployed to another Church,



The Apostolic Church, No. 2, Assembly Ruwan Zafi also within the metropolis. The Army Public Relations Officer, Lt. Danbeki said the two clashes between soldiers and sect members at Simari and Ruwan Zafi Wards of the metropolis occurred at about 7.15 and 9.30 in the night. He, however, said he could not ascertain the total number of casualties until the Brigade Commander of 21 Armoured Brigade, Brig-Gen. Tanko Gaiya  completes investigations into the two clashes.

Borno State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Abubakar who confirmed the attacks and killings yesterday evening said, “we received the reports on Tuesday night on the attempts of Boko Haram armed sect members to attack the COCIN Church at Gomari of Simari Ward. In defending the Church, the soldiers returned several gunshots and killed some of the sect members.” He, however, did not mention the number of the suspected Boko Haram men killed in the attacks.

Speaking in a telephone conversation, Pastor in charge of the Ruwan Zafi assembly of The Apostolic Church, Pastor Oyebode, disclosed that the gunmen arrived the Church area at about 9.30 pm and started shooting. “We were in the Church mission house and the people were shooting repeatedly. We had to lie on the floor till day break. It was a painful experience and as I am talking to you now, we couldn’t go out of the Church because the soldiers and police have condoned off the area,” he disclosed.
