The Federal Government will purchase helicopters and distribute to various states in the federation to help to checkmate crime rate in the country .

This was announced by the President Goodluck Jonathan while addressing Imo stakeholders at the multi-purpose hall on Saturday at Owerri, the Imo State capital.

According to him, this would help to checkmate insurgency of crime waves in the country, particularly in the South-East where there rampant kidnapping , armed robbery and other related crimes have been on the rise.

He used the opportunity to urge traditional rulers , town union and members of the pubic to cooperate with law enforcement agents who were deployed to trail down  hoodlums that are living in our midst.

The president, who is on a two day official visit to Imo State, explained that  government is preparing law that would allow government to confiscate  properties of those found to be criminals.

On the industrial action embarked upon by the state owned universities in the South-East by Academic Staff union university (ASUU), the president said that government is discussing with South-East governors with a view of resolving the crisis.

its disadvantage will outweight its advantages , what of if those armed robbers and the kidnappers with their sopiscated weapons blows up the helicopter ? which is very easy to do , anyway its occupants will be only the police or detectives

The plan is good, but its not only to provide helicopters, but to give the police very good training on how to use it. if they don't have the expertise then it cant work. there is supposed to be very good communication also, good roads, good maintenance, no corruption. if all these are not available then the whole thing will be a wild goose chase.

What we need in this country is to equip our law enforcement agents with a better weapons, that will Enable them with stand the shooting power of those hoodlums..also increase
thier pay,so they will be commited to thier duty..i notice some days
Back that our security agents are so afraid of these guys(kidnapers) and what the FG should be thinking of is how to remove that fear in them..
