If u were the president right now, what would u do as a matter of urgency. Listen, Nigeria is making almost 80dollars for every barrell of crude oil cos a barrell is 140dollars today. with nigeria making so much money now, what would u do withthe cash right now if u were yar'a dua

wooow. What an honour!!

I will start by annoucing that there is no state religion. meaning no religious laws to govern any state. everyone will be equal before the laws. With time, the law will be re-written and every household will be given a free copy.

Secondly, i will abolish all our universities and turn the to technology centres. here people will have to build things from scratch and compete in the global market to sell their products. This will be the basis for starting new companies and creating employment. This will include agricultural schools, electrical/alternative power schools, etc.

Thirdly i will abolish the millitary. They are a complete waste of money. Every citizen will get milittary training and get satified whilst in college. They as citizen will be drafted in to help protect our country when under attack. Our millitary will be the whole population. Not just the 16 - 19 year olds that are sent to die for causeless reasons.

Forthly, the police will be disbanned and replaced with local security firms.

then, i will start to demolish privatization and capitalism.

This is the most interesting post i've ever come accross in Naijapals!
Good thinking.

If were President, dis will be my agenda:

1. Nigerian Police: total transformation by flushing out the uneducated ones among them cos
they are the ones causing nuisance.
Start a new recruitment programme that will include sending them to Isreal,UK or USA for training.

2. Lift Ban on Importation: Our boarders will be thrown open to importers of genuine products
with less stress. They will be allowed to compete favourably with the Nigerian products.
All the products that were banned and manufactured or locally produced are expensive as a
result of scarcity, encouraging monopoly (e.g Cement).
There people who are ready to import and sell the same quality of products at a lesser price.
This will breake monopoly, reduce inflation and bring about price control.

3. Agriculture: There will be a massive campaigne for every state to go into full scale mechanised farming of agricultural products that are found there to ensure food security and exportation.

4. Education: With the kind of money we generate from oil, there will be a total revamp of the
education sector by reveiwing the curriculum to include modern IT training and equip them them with modern facilities.

5. Power: Apart from the HydroElectric Power source we are currently using, I will invest in other sources of power generation like
 i. Coal in Enugu (capable of generating up to 2000 Mega Watts)
 ii Wind Mill
 iii. Solar

The current leaders of nigeria are negleting the service functions of the country that is why poverty is the most common problem in the country today.
So if i am fortunate enough to become the president of nigeria  i will pay more attention to the service functions of the country like ensuring mass litracy by providing more free schools and giving out scholarships to the elites of those schools and i ensure you that by doing this it will reduce the amount of criminals, beggars, drop outs and the under previllaged in the society.

i tink kidds would adjust if elders serve as good examples. takin em outta the nation is realy not necessary. we all can learn and improve on our own grounds. the chinese and japanese are very good examples.

Taking them away will only make them non Nigerians. naijas need to encourage a new system of education which will benefit our country itself and not the one that makes us more marketable for the west to use us for their growth. we already did all these when they took us as slaves to build their countries. We now need us to rebuild our countries away from further developing the foreign system. Then we can interract with them later, as equals having a different vision and wanting peace.

I think many comments here are either with tribal undertones or too narrow to have weight. The problems with Nigeria is not peculiar to Nigeria alone! but in a situation when the whole system has developed a strong resistance to change!! that's where the danger is! Being a President in Nigeria will not change anything!! as long as the whole system is not humanly enough to respect people's right to live!!! and right to basic necessities. These are the list of what i think anybody that find him or herself to be in that postion should do:
1. Give power back to people (that's what make all the developed countries what they are today)
2. Overhauling of our democratic process/ constitution that embrace all part of the country or we should go for devolution( we can have regional setting and everybody will still be part of greater Nigeria), infact it will enhance provision of infrastructure! because when you break a programme into unit, you will have the chance to identify each smaller unit better.
3. Devaluations of political posts ( if we can make political appointment less attractive ) it will definitely becomes a call to serve, with accountability.
4. Creation of policies that have human face ( the country resources should be use in helping her citizen) this will make it compulsory for every Nigeria to pay back what the country has done for them ( this is why many Nigeria are becoming UNPATRIOTIC cause the country resources has not been use to help develop Nigerians unlike their counterparts from advance countries).
5. Scrapping of all unnecessary Ministries ( there are too many redundant people in Nigeria claiming they are working (Govern. workers) when in actual sense they produce nothing!  you can never find anything like this in UK and US and that is why we are backward. This is 21st century Nigeria should change and embrace new ways of working which are; Service procurement, private enterprises, Job agencies and many more. To make it work all we need in Nigeria is let those jobless Senators and Honourable enact law that will protect employment and i can assure all of you every- workers in Nigeria will be happy, because it will bring about more jobs and prompt payment of salaries and wages.
6. Free and fair press ( this is necessary so that the country can have a wider coverage and every incident broadcast) i can assure you there will be no more Godfathers, because you know everything you do, there are many people watching you (journalists) and thy will report it promptly to the whole country, and shamed you.
7. If we can achieve all of the above measures, has a matter of urgency... people hope will be restored and Nigeria Will have good security (Police) because people will be happy to lay their lives for their community and country in general
8. The last thing will be, establishment of a strong database for the country. this will include prompt registration of birth and death!, there must be laws guiding this. even if children are born in the most-remote part of the country they must register his or her name in the State, Federal and local Govt registry. Same as death, nobody must bury any corpse without proper record. this will help us to have the required data needed for budgeting and Govt expenses.
To all my brothers all this may look like un- achievable task, but this is what make Britian to be Britain and American to be America.
I look-forward to change in Nigeria. Most of the problem in Nigeria today ! the cause are simple (people have been let down too long for anybody to remember)
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria, Long live all her citizens!!!
