The Federal Government has challenged Nigerian Manufacturers to prove to Nigerians that their production capacity can meet the market demands before it launches the campaign patronise made in Nigeria products.

Speaking, during a stakeholders meeting ahead of the formal launching of the campaign, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Chief Achike Udenwa said it is not enough to convince Nigerians to buy made in Nigeria products without the assurance of its availability.

He said, "What we want to asked the major producers is, supposing we got Nigerians to demand your products, can you satisfy the markets? It is not enough for us to convince people to buy made in Nigeria and you go to the market but don't see made in Nigeria."

He said if the manufacturers are sure that they can supply the Nigerian market, they will carry out the campaign in all corners of the country. He said, "I can assure you Nigerians will be very eager to buy made in Nigerians goods. We want to stimulate demand and that is what this campaign is all about."

Chief Udenwa said the patronise made in Nigerian product campaign is very comprehensive, ranging from Assembly of motor vehicle to even peanuts and services. He said the country may not appreciate how much of its money is outside, adding that most of the export oil money that comes into the country is spent in paying for goods we should otherwise produce here in Nigeria.

Also speaking, the minister of state for Commerce and Industry, Barrister Humphrey Abbah said the patronage for Nigeria goods will help create employment, enhance the nation's economy as well improve industries.

He said, "when we neglect and reject locally manufactured products for foreign goods, we kill our industries and increase capital flight which will contribute to impoverishing the nation more."
