Impeachment: Ijaw warlord says Niger Delta will defend Jonathan

Major Niger Delta groups have risen in defence of President Goodluck Jonathan, threatening to take up arms if the National Assembly presses ahead with the threat to impeach the president.

Ijaw warlords in the Niger Delta yon Thursday said they would throw the country into unprecedented crisis if the threat by the House of Representatives to commence impeachment process against President Jonathan materializes.

The House mad that The Presidency have been pitted against each other in the last three weeks over the poor implementation of the 2012 budget, forcing some of the lawmakers to openly canvass impeachment of the president.

The Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, headed by Alhaji Mujarhedeen Asari Dokubo, said it was had mobilized its members for action in September, the resumption time for plenary by the House of Representatives when it is suspected the impeachment threat would be actualized.

The group said the action of the House was an invitation to national crisis and insisted that the Niger Delta’s reaction to the impeachment of their kinsman would spell doom for the country, much like the civil war.

While the threat of impeachment first emerged at the House, the upper chamber, the Senate has also openly taken on The Presidency on the performance of the budget.

The Senate summoned the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Wednesday and grilled her on the issue.

Asari-Dokubo dismissed the allegations against Jonathan, adding that the accusation of poor budget implementation against Jonathan’s government was “merely calling a dog a bad name in order to hang it.”

He said the issue of poor implementation of budget was not a new development, adding that it did not start with the Jonathan’s administration.

The NDPVF chief pointed out that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his successor, the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, were never threatened with impeachment moves when they were in power despite that they did not implement the budget faithfully.

According to him, the position of the National Assembly on the 2012 budget was part of the agenda to destabilise and truncate Jonathan’s administration.

“Why is it that it is everything that Jonathan does that is different? Obasanjo was there as president and he never implemented any budget in eight years. Obasanjo even refused to sign appropriation bills. The National Assembly will pass the appropriation, he will not sign. Obasanjo was spending money without appropriation and yet he was not impeached,” he said.

He said further: “Yar’Adua came and did the same thing. These people (Reps) are looking for our trouble, they are pushing us, testing the ground for crisis. They will see what they are looking for at the appropriate time. They will see the crisis. These people will be the losers and they will crawl and beg.

“We have not forgotten how they threatened fire and brimstones if Jonathan wins PDP primaries and how they threatened to destabilise his government if he wins the general election. They are seeking troubles and they will see it. If Boko Haram is giving them troubles, our own will be a million time more than what they are seeing with Boko Haram. The Nigerian civil war will be a child’s play compared to what we are going to do if anything happens to Goodluck Jonathan.

“They should allow us to rest, they are pushing us to the wall and when we reach a stage, we will face them,” he added.

Sometimes, am forced to believe that these house of reps guys are using Artificial china made Brains, Nigeria is under serious treat of bokoharam Idiots, their colleagues are swimming in corruption, we dont have steady electricity, Okonjo iweala and Sanusi are using our economy deh play table tennis, yet the the most important thing for the reps to do is to initiate impeachment move, this is madness
