Bayelsa State Government has declared a week of prayer and fasting for the health of President Umaru Yar’adua who is currently recuperating in Saudi Arabia.

Governor Timipre Sylva said in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Doifie Ola that the prayer session started November 29 with a vigil and candlelight procession and would end December 5.

Sylva said while members of the state executive council, the judiciary, the legislature, as well as heads and members of government parastatals and agencies would hold the prayer programme with a night of prayer at the Government House, Yenagoa, chairmen of all the local government areas in the state would hold similar vigils in their respectively local government headquarters.

Sylva urged all Nigerians to do similar prayers for the health of the president, saying, “We should spend more time now praying and seeking the face of God for our president instead of offering ourselves as vehicles of evil rumour against the man God has ordained as our leader. What Yar’Adua needs now is prayer, not rumour mongering.
