It is much harder to keep it going because all relationships take work. The euphoric feeling you get at the very beginning fades and you have to work together. Relationships do not sustain themselves. Both people have to continue to be open, honest, and fair. Once the butterflies stop you must have substance to ensure the relatioinship will not whither away. You have to build upon the things you have in common and be able to accept those in which you do not.
