In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed in northwestern Iran while he was on an official visit to neighboring Azerbaijan. The fate of President Raisi and other passengers remains uncertain as rescue operations are underway.

Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi has confirmed that rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site, and authorities are awaiting further information. The state-run IRNA news agency reported that along with President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and several local officials were also on board the helicopter.

The semi-official Fars news agency has urged the public to pray for President Raisi following the crash reports.

Ebrahim Raisi, 63, ascended to the presidency in 2021 after a second attempt at the office. His tenure has been marked by a strict enforcement of morality laws, a harsh crackdown on anti-government protests, and vigorous efforts in nuclear negotiations with global powers. The nation anxiously awaits updates on his condition and that of his companions.

The four Iranian officials who were in the helicopter according to the reports:
Ibrahim Raisi - President of Iran
Hussein Amir Abdel-Lahyan - Minister of Foreign Affairs
Malek Rahmati - Governor of East Azerbaijan Province
Muhammad Ali Al-Hashem - Imam in the province of Tabriz
