In a significant military operation, the Nigerian Army has rescued at least 386 people, predominantly women and children, from Sambisa Forest, a decade after their abduction by terrorists.

Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, the acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7th Division, announced the successful rescue during a press briefing on the outskirts of Sambisa Forest in Konduga Local Government Area. The rescue was part of a 10-day mission dubbed "Operation Desert Sanity 111."

“The operation aimed to clear Sambisa Forest of all categories of terrorists and provide an opportunity for those willing to surrender,” Haruna explained. “Our goal is to ensure the complete eradication of terrorist remnants in Sambisa and offer a path to surrender for those ready to do so.”

Highlighting the success of the operation, Haruna noted, "As of yesterday, we rescued 386 civilians, and I anticipate this number will increase by today." He expressed optimism that more terrorists would surrender in light of the operation's impact.

Addressing the troops, Haruna conveyed the Chief of Army Staff's commendation, praising their professionalism and urging them to maintain their efforts.

Those rescued from the forest recounted harrowing tales of a decade in captivity. The operation involved troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, 26 Task Force Brigade, and 199 Special Forces, who executed the mission with precision and dedication.

This rescue marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security to the region, offering a glimmer of hope to those who have endured years of suffering.
