In a bold statement, former President Donald Trump declared his readiness to face incarceration in defense of the Constitution, amidst ongoing legal proceedings involving his hush-money case. Trump's remarks came during a press briefing following the conclusion of the third week of his trial against New York authorities.
Addressing reporters, Trump voiced his defiance against what he perceives as unjust prosecution, particularly targeting individuals involved in the case. "If anything’s mentioned against certain people, and you know who they are—certain people—anything’s even mentioned, he wants to put me in jail," Trump asserted, brandishing various media articles related to the trial. "That could happen one day and I’d be very proud to go to jail for our Constitution."
Trump took aim at Judge Juan Merchan, criticizing the perceived unconstitutional nature of the trial proceedings. "What he’s doing is so unconstitutional. There’s never been anything like it," Trump remarked, highlighting his discontent with the judge's handling of the case.
The former president further lambasted Judge Merchan for not imposing a gag order on Michael Cohen, a key figure in the case. Trump's legal team had previously requested such an order, which the judge declined to enforce. "There is no gag order to Michael Cohen. What the judge did was amazing. Actually, it was amazing. Everybody can say whatever they want, but I’m not allowed to say anything about anybody. It’s a disgrace," Trump lamented, expressing frustration at what he perceives as biased treatment.
Trump's comments reflect his staunch defense against the legal challenges he faces, as the trial continues to unfold amidst mounting criticism and scrutiny from both sides.
