In a bid to provide support and stability to young girls orphaned by the devastating impact of banditry, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has unveiled plans to facilitate the marriage of 100 female orphans in Mariga Local Government Area.

According to reports from The Nation, Sarkindaji revealed that the initiative aims to offer a brighter future for girls who have tragically lost their parents to bandit attacks, ensuring their welfare and security through marriage.

The Speaker, representing Mariga Constituency, has pledged to cover the dowries for the bridegrooms and has ensured that all necessary materials for the marriages have been procured. Sarkindaji emphasized that the comfort and well-being of the girls in their matrimonial homes will be prioritized, aligning with Islamic traditions.

While the age range of the girls was not disclosed, Sarkindaji assured that the selection process was meticulous, with the 100 girls chosen from a pool of 170 applicants.

Speaking to journalists in Minna, Sarkindaji underscored that the mass marriage initiative forms part of his constituency empowerment project, driven by compassion and a desire to alleviate the plight of the less fortunate.

In a show of support, the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau, have agreed to serve as guardians for the orphaned girls embarking on this new chapter of their lives.

The event, scheduled for May 24 at Bangi, the headquarters of Mariga Local Government Area, is expected to be graced by esteemed figures, including the Commander General of the Hisbah Board in Kano State, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, highlighting the significance of this initiative in promoting social cohesion and support for vulnerable communities.
