An outbreak of violence in Byazhin, Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory resulted in the tragic deaths of two women and a young boy.

Reports indicate that the riot, which commenced on Tuesday night, stemmed from a clash between local scavengers, known as Baban bola, and community residents.

The unrest began when a bola boy tried to steal a woman’s pot of soup on Tuesday evening. When the woman raised an alarm, neighbors and passersby intervened and subdued the scavenger.

Subsequently, the scavenger, following a severe beating, rallied other troublemakers armed with weapons like machetes to retaliate.

An eyewitness, identified only as Monica, recounted to NewsNow that the hoodlums launched random attacks on residents, resulting in the death of one woman. Two other individuals, possibly passersby, also lost their lives in the chaos.

“The Baban bola individuals arrived armed to the teeth, wreaking havoc, all because one of them faced repercussions for attempting to steal a pot of soup,” remarked the eyewitness.

“That night, they claimed two lives. The following morning’s assault led to another fatality, bringing the total to three deceased,” she added. “Numerous individuals sustained injuries and received urgent medical attention at the local hospital in Kubwa.”

Schools in the vicinity took precautionary measures by closing down as parents hurried to retrieve their children for safety.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and disclosed that multiple suspects have been apprehended in connection with the violent episode. Adeh emphasized that these individuals are presently undergoing interrogation to establish their involvement.

The police spokesperson assured that peace has been restored in the area.
