Olaniyi Israel Adewale, a student at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has embarked on a remarkable quest to establish a new Guinness World Record for the longest drumming marathon by an individual, aiming to surpass the 150-hour mark.

Utilizing the rhythmic beats of the African talking drum, the computer science student commenced his ambitious endeavor on April 29, with the goal of concluding the nearly seven-day marathon on May 5, all within the premises of FUOYE.

Adewale's feat has garnered attention and anticipation, particularly as he has received approval from Guinness World Records (GWR) to undertake the attempt. As of the latest update, Adewale has surpassed the 100-hour milestone, with the entirety of his journey being broadcasted across his social media platforms.

In addition to showcasing his drumming prowess, the marathon has been infused with elements of entertainment and celebration, featuring performances of songs by renowned Afrobeats artists such as Mayorkun and Simi. Adewale has also seized the opportunity to pay tribute to notable personalities, including comedian Mr Macaroni and social media sensation Woliagba.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received, particularly from comedian Ayo Ajewole, Adewale took to Instagram to reflect on the significance of his journey and the milestones achieved thus far. He reiterated his commitment to the challenge and urged supporters to continue rallying behind him as he strives to make history.

Adewale's ambitious endeavor adds to the growing list of Nigerians who have endeavored to push the boundaries and set new world records. In 2023, Hassan Joshua Bature, a computer science lecturer at FUOYE, made headlines with his own attempt at a 150-hour teaching marathon, further showcasing the university's commitment to fostering innovation and excellence among its students and faculty alike.
