Dr. Funke Afolabi-Brown is a US-based Nigerian physician who has made history as the first Black woman to own a sleep clinic, Restful Sleep MD.

She is a triple board-certified pediatric pulmonologist and sleep medicine physician, trained at the University of Pennsylvania. With over a decade of clinical experience, Dr. Afolabi-Brown is dedicated to improving sleep health for both children and adults.

Her practice, Restful Sleep MD, offers comprehensive sleep care and coaching, particularly focusing on helping busy professional women and their children achieve optimal sleep for better health and well-being.

Dr. Afolabi-Brown also engages in public speaking and educational efforts to raise awareness about the importance of sleep, having been featured on platforms like ABC and BabyCenter. Additionally, she has contributed to various advisory boards and professional committees, underscoring her commitment to advancing sleep medicine

As a board-certified pediatric pulmonologist and sleep medicine physician with over two decades of experience, Afolabi-Brown, driven with the challenge and set herself on a mission to fix this issue, one family at a time.

Sleep deprivation doesn’t just affect the individual; it impacts the entire family unit,” Afolabi-Brown said. “When a child is sleep deprived, their physical, mental and emotional health suffers. Parents are often physically and mentally exhausted themselves.”

“That is why our approach is family-centered. We address the root cause by looking at medical, psychosocial and behavioral components, from which we create customisable sleep treatments honoring the family’s values.”.
