WARRI—NATIONAL Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Delta State branch, commenced an industrial action, yesterday, alleging assault on a nurse at the Central Hospital, Warri, by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Otumara.

Meanwhile, doctors in the state, yesterday, called off their “protest withdrawal of services” over insecurity and kidnap of their members by gunmen.

Vanguard gathered that the decision to call off the strike was taken at an emergency meeting of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, branch executive, yesterday.

NANNM, in a letter to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, entitled, “Assault on a nurse by the Commissioner for Health – Notice of Industrial Action,” by the state Secretary, Mr Akinfewa Olabode, demanded unreserved apology from the state government and the Commissioner.

Vanguard learnt that the nurses withdrew their services with immediate effect at the Central Hospital, Warri, after the incident on March 29.

NANNM in the letter, said: “With total disbelief and shock, the association received the ugly news of assault on a female member of the association, Nurse Akate Oghenero, attached to Central Hospital, Warri, by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Otumara. This happened due to failure of the nurse to stand up when the commissioner entered her ward.

“This is regarded not only as dehumanizing, but also as the height of provocation to the association and entire nurses in the state. The association, therefore, calls for the immediate removal of Dr. Otumara as the state Commissioner for Health.

“The association is also demanding an unreserved apology from the state government and the commissioner and until that is done, nurses in the Central Hospital, Warri, shall withdraw their services with immediate effect.

“We seize this opportunity to serve notice of indefinite industrial action by nurses in the state from Monday, April 2, until when justice is seen to be done and the brutal attitude is adequately addressed.”

QUOTE  FROM THE PREVIOUS POST ON THIS ARTICLE

"" But the commissioner, Dr. Joseph Otumara, swore to Sunday Vanguard on phone, yesterday, that he didn’t slap Mrs. Oghenero, saying that he only tried to stop her from making calls with her GSM phone while work was going on during his visit to the hospital on March 29.""

This is one thing about us Nigerians. We only show our selves on things that are unimportant.

Boko haram were killing and bombing innocent people in the North, there was no protest against it,there was no strike action.

ASSU AND NASSU went on strike for couple of months, there were no strike,no protest by any organization, association or individuals.

Just because of ordinary slap, an act which is not yet confirmed and accepted by the accused, now nurses go on strike abandoning thousands of souls who life's were at stake because of Slap. (No be wafi girl, dat slap no do her anything.dem know how many slap wey the boy friend dey give am every morning before she come work?  Grin Grin Grin Grin)

There is no justification for beating or slapping a man or woman, but this action by the Delta Nurses association will only expand the girls ego and set a wrong record to the mind set of other nurses to copy. Don't trust these girls especially with this their new boyfriend husband BB. Maybe she was Pinging who knows? If a girl can be pinging with her BB on her wedding day,i wonder where else they will not Ping.

Making calls and Injecting or treating a sick patient who's life is at stake at the same time, how does it work together? It is completely a big distraction. If all of us here saying, that the nurse should slap him back,do this or that were the sick patient, how would we feel,or if the patient is our sister, brother, father, mother, wife, husband, son, daughter, and this nurse is making calls while attending to us,how would we feel?

It is only in Nigeria that this kind of bull shit will happen,it cannot happen in western world.A Nigerian UK based Nurse (45yrs old woman) was sack from her nursing Job,because she was caught kneeling down praying to God to heal her patient on the bed,she was charged to court, sacked for incompetent and her Nursing liesence was canceled and taken  from her.

40% of the casualties, disfigures, lost of life we encounter in Nigerian hospitals today is not as a result of the sickness, disease or illness but as a result of carelessness from the doctors and their nurses.

A good medical Medical Nurse/doctors were not suppose to be answering personal / pleasure calls while on duty.It is only quack Nurses can do such.

Doctors / Nurses are in the same category with Power Engineers ,they need to be very very careful because any slight mistake from the Doctor or nurse, they lose the life they were trying to save and Power Engineers, any slight error they made, their life is gone.

Nigerian Doctors and Nurses are beginning to behave like Nigerian Police.
For example, run a police station and report that thieves just snatched ur car now now now and the robbers to headed towards badagry express way,the police will say ehh ok wait,he will book and pen,he then say to you,oya write ur statement, put the make of ur car, which yr u buy am,write where u for buy am,the color, how many yrs u don drive am,engine number, chassis number, write weather ur head lamp and travigators light dey work,no forget to write how many times u don use am carry ur girl friend go club and bar go drink, remember to put the name of club and bar, time and dates,so that we go know were to find am and weather na ur group snatch am from you. Before you finish, all these biography ur car don reach Cotonou, that one don go be dat.

Another example, run a police station and report that robbers are robbing one bank, the police man will say,Yes we hear am ohh,we are willing to go after them but our car no get fuel, this gun wey i carry here,na only two bullet dey inside, see our station,na only Me Effiong, and Tade, dey here, two people no fit go chase high way robbers naa,how many dem dey, what kind of guy dem carry, before you go answer all these question, guy men dem done discharge. That time the policemen will arrive at the scene wey them wey them, that is what u will hear.

Take an emergency patient to the Hospital,Nurse pls we have emergency where is the doctor please Nurse help.Nurse response will be the doctor is not around,ok come register his/her name, bring money for card, pay for private room and deposit of thousand thousand Naira before treatment.Meanwhile the doctor is inside his office and he knows what is happening and he will keep quiet. Before you will go through card, registration, deposit, the patient is already on quarter to go state.By the time you are through with the registration process, they will now take the already dead corpse to the theater and that time, the doctor comes out after few mins, the language you will her is Sorry Madam,Sir, we loose him or we loose her.

Before you turn back, they don carry the corpse to mortuary, that one na another Bill. This is Niaja for we.Brothers,Let say that a spade is a spade,so that a hoe will be a hoe,if a rake is a rake, then an axe remains an axe so that a cutlass will always remain a cutlass.

In all the comments i have read concerning this article on it's previous post and this support action from the Nurses Association ,no one has a blamed the nurse, only the Minister.

Even if there was a slap which is not yet accepted by the accused as stated in quoted red ink above, something motivated the slap.So to me if the Minister truly slap her,he was wrong be jailed for two weeks or 500,000 naira fine and return to his work, and the Nurse also was totally and complete wrong for making pleasuring calls while at work,a risky work for that matter, something that has to with human life. She is here by sacked as a quack Nurse and her certificate canceled and withdrew from her if she has any, at least she can get another job at  Hello MTN "Every where you Go......................"

I REST MY CASE.
