In a significant breakthrough, the Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspected cultists allegedly involved in kidnappings across Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, and surrounding areas in Oghara community, Ethiope-West Local Government Area of the state.

The arrests, conducted at different locations in Oghara, Koko, and Sapele, were made possible by a specialized police team deployed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on May 9, 2024. Led by ASP Julius Robinson, the team acted on technologically generated intelligence to apprehend the suspects, believed to be members of the Eiye Confraternity.

Confirming the development, SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the suspects were found in possession of firearms and ammunition. Among the recovered weapons were an automatic pump-action gun and a new AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine.

Detailing the operation, Edafe revealed that the police special team raided Oghara town in the early hours of May 9, 2024, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old suspect associated with the Eiye confraternity. Subsequently, another suspect, aged 46 and also affiliated with the Eiye confraternity, was apprehended at a hotel in Koko Junction, Oghara, with an automatic pump-action gun in his possession.

Further investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect in Sapele, Delta State, where a new AK-47 rifle and an empty magazine were recovered.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects are linked to a spate of kidnappings in Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, and neighboring areas. The apprehended individuals are currently in custody, with investigations ongoing to uncover further details surrounding their alleged criminal activities.
