A 37-year-old teacher, Adamu Ayuba, has been remanded in a correctional center following allegations of defilement of a seven-year-old pupil. The decision was made by a Jimeta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Yola.
Ayuba, a resident of Rawani, Jambutu, Yola, was charged by the police with defilement, a crime contrary to Section 211 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State. Despite pleading not guilty to the charge, the Chief Magistrate, Musa Adamu, ordered his remand and adjourned the case until May 29 for further investigation.
“The case has been adjourned until May 29, to enable the police to finish their investigation and to forward the case file to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice,” Magistrate Adamu stated.
According to the prosecution counsel, ASP Ezra Bulus, the complaint was lodged by Fatima Isah, the mother of the minor, who reported the incident to the police station on May 2 at about 6:00 pm.
Bulus detailed that the victim, a student of Anur Modern Academy Yola, complained of severe pains in her private parts upon returning home from school on April 29. He emphasized the criminal nature of the offense and requested the court to adjourn the matter until May 29 for further legal proceedings.
The alleged offense is in violation of Section 211 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa, 2018, according to Bulus. The court has prioritized thorough investigation and adherence to legal protocols in handling the case, reflecting its commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and upholding the rule of law.
