In a triumphant moment, three of the abducted Chibok girls who escaped Boko Haram captivity have graduated from the American University of Nigeria (AUN). They were among 189 students awarded first degrees during the university's 15th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday.

The Chibok girls were part of the hundreds kidnapped in 2014, a tragedy that garnered global attention. While many remain in captivity, those who have escaped have worked hard to rebuild their lives. The graduation of these three women is a testament to their resilience and determination.

During the ceremony at AUN's main campus in Yola, the university's President (vice chancellor), Dwayne Frazier, commended the graduates for their perseverance. “I have no doubt that you will excel because you have all shown resilience, determination, and commitment. These qualities will propel you to achieve great things as you contribute to the development of the country,” Frazier remarked.

Guest speaker Professor Mike Ozekhome highlighted the university's role in shaping future leaders. “With the entrepreneurship lectures and training you have received here at AUN, you can create jobs for yourselves,” he encouraged the students.

The commencement ceremony saw eight students awarded PhDs, ten receiving MSc degrees, and 189 earning first degrees. Additionally, Professor Ozekhome was honored with a Doctor of Letters degree for his contributions to peace, human rights, the rule of law, and good governance in Nigeria.

This graduation marks a significant milestone not only for the escaped Chibok girls but also for the American University of Nigeria, showcasing the transformative power of education and resilience.
