Five-Year-Old Boy, Ditebogo Junior Shot Dead In Hijacking Outside Family Home

A devastating incident has shaken the community of Soshanguve, as a 5-year-old boy, Ditebogo Junior, was fatally shot during a hijacking outside his family home on Friday, May 10, 2024.

According to police spokesperson, Lt-Col Mavela Masondo, the boy's father, Ditebogo Phalane, was arriving home around 10:30pm when his Toyota Hilux was hijacked by an unknown number of armed suspects. Tragically, the young boy, who had gone out to greet his father, was shot and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The heart-wrenching news was shared on social media by the boy's cousin, Gift Makoti, who expressed outrage and grief, saying, "What has this country come to now!!!!!???! That's a CHILD man!!!!!!" Makoti posted photos of the happy father-son duo, highlighting the strong bond between them.

The community has been left in shock and anger, with many offering condolences and support to the family. A initiative has been started to raise funds for a tombstone for the young boy.

The police are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to come forward. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the need for increased vigilance and community support to combat crime and protect our children.
