The Anambra State Police Command has made significant strides in curbing cult-related violence, with the arrest of 16 notorious cultists and the declaration of 21 others as wanted individuals.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command's spokesman, revealed in a statement issued in Awka on Saturday that the breakthrough followed heightened efforts to quell the resurgence of cult-related killings in Awka, the state capital.

Ikenga disclosed that the Police Command successfully apprehended 16 notorious cult members implicated in various acts of violence across Anambra.

Furthermore, he highlighted that 21 other individuals suspected of involvement in cult activities are currently evading arrest and have consequently been declared wanted by the State Police Command.

The arrests were made possible through a series of intelligence-led operations orchestrated by the Police Command under the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye.

CP Adeoye has urged the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) to intensify efforts in tracking down the remaining fugitives among the identified cultists.

Additionally, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of community and religious leaders' collaboration in denouncing the scourge of cultism, calling for collective action to safeguard society from its detrimental effects.
