Suspected armed herdsmen on Tuesday reportedly killed 10 people including a pregnant woman in a fresh attack on Akilo community in Usha council ward of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

It was gathered that the victims were gruesomely murdered in their homes at about 3:30 pm last Sunday.

The Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Yakubu Ochepo, confirmed the killings saying, “11 people were killed”, adding that seven corpses had been recovered so far.

Ochepo said, “a pregnant woman’s corpse, an elderly man and that of five youths have been recovered”.

He stressed that the community members were able to achieve this through the aid of soldiers and Air force personnel deployed to the area.

“I am in Makurdi now to report to the Operations Whirl Stroke, (OPWS).

“We need more hands. We hear they captured some alive and threw some into the river but we are still waiting for more reports from the area.

“We have not been able to recover the remaining four corpses yet”.

Ochepo, however, appealed to both the state and Federal Governments to take immediate action towards ending the attacks by deploying more security personnel to Agatu to check the activities of the killer herdsmen in the area.

When contacted, the Benue State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene said she was yet to get information about the incident.
