In a resolute address, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the noble objectives driving Nigeria's tax reforms under President Bola Tinubu's administration, debunking speculations and clarifying the reforms' intent to enhance the system for the collective welfare of all Nigerians.

Speaking at the conclusion of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee's retreat at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, the Vice President, represented by Aliyu Moddibo Umar, the Special Adviser to the President on General Duties (Office of The Vice President), underscored the administration's commitment to fostering an administrative framework that ensures the advantages of a robust tax system reach every citizen.

Contrary to conjectures circulating in certain quarters, Shettima affirmed, "We are not here to thwart any sector of our economy but to craft an administrative system that guarantees the benefits of a thriving tax system for all our citizens."

Highlighting the policy thrust of the Tinubu administration's tax reforms, Shettima acknowledged the evolving dynamics within Nigeria's fiscal landscape that prompted a reevaluation of the nation's trajectory. "Our aim remains the revitalization of revenue generation in Nigeria while sustaining an investment-friendly and globally competitive business environment," he reiterated.

Expressing unwavering confidence in the committee's capacity to execute its mandate effectively, the Vice President emphasized the gravity of the task ahead, signaling a transition from proposal to implementation. "We are gathered today because we are transitioning from the phase of proposal in the operations of this committee’s work to the phase of implementation," he noted.

Shettima assured stakeholders of the federal and state governments' readiness to facilitate the reforms' seamless adoption, pledging to furnish the requisite institutional framework to ensure alignment with the administration's economic agenda. "I am confident that both the federal and state governments stand ready to ensure the effective implementation of your reform proposals," he affirmed, signaling a concerted effort toward national progress.
