Solomon Dalung, Nigeria's former Minister of Sports, recently shared a harrowing experience where he narrowly escaped death due to a lack of immediate medical attention over a relatively small sum of money.
The former minister recounted his ordeal, revealing that upon arriving at the hospital, he lost consciousness as doctors interrogated him about his condition. Shockingly, he claimed that he was left unattended for four hours simply because he couldn't afford the initial N80,000 deposit required to commence treatment.
Expressing his dismay at the callousness of the situation, Dalung questioned the erosion of basic humanity, lamenting the tragic fate of many Nigerians who have perished under similar circumstances.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Dalung disclosed that he was a regular patient at the hospital and had visited just two months prior to the incident. He emphasized that the hospital possessed his medical records, raising concerns about the apparent disregard for his life despite his established history with the medical facility.
The revelation has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for urgent reforms within Nigeria's healthcare system to ensure that access to medical care is not determined by financial status.
