The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the seizure of contraband worth a staggering N380,370,911 over the course of 23 days, signaling a significant victory in the ongoing battle against illicit trade.

Controller James Ojo unveiled the impressive haul during a press briefing held at the Customs Office in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. Highlighting the collaborative efforts between Customs officials and security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), Ojo attributed the successful seizures to intensive intelligence strategies and coordinated operations.

The confiscated items, totaling 103 in quantity, encompassed a wide array of contraband, including 90 sacks and 1,309 parcels of cannabis sativa, 1,596 pieces of foreign-used pneumatic tires, 2,922 bags of foreign parboiled rice weighing 50kg each, 32 bales of used clothing, 1,603 cartons of frozen poultry products, and 22,600 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), among others.

The cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized items amounted to an eye-watering N380,370,911, underscoring the magnitude of the illicit trade activities intercepted by Customs officials.

Ojo emphasized that the contraband was intercepted at various locations within Ogun State, underscoring the pervasive nature of smuggling activities across the region. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to combatting illegal trade and safeguarding the nation's economic interests.

As investigations into the seizures continue, the announcement serves as a testament to the vigilance and dedication of Customs officials in curbing illicit trade and ensuring compliance with regulatory measures.
