Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has pleaded not guilty to charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
These charges involve the alleged unauthorized approval of the printing of N684.5 million at a cost of N18.96 billion. Emefiele made his plea during his arraignment before Justice Maryann Anenih at the FCT High Court in Abuja.
The EFCC has charged Emefiele with four counts, accusing him of disobeying legal directives with the intent to harm public interest, specifically during the implementation of the naira swap policy under former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.
Additionally, the anti-corruption agency claims that Emefiele unlawfully authorized the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Federation’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
