In a disturbing turn of events, armed men donning military attire reportedly invaded the peaceful Tomabiaong Ukwa Community in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake, including the tragic loss of five elderly individuals and the destruction of numerous houses.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, believed to have hailed from the distant Isu community in Ihechiowa Local Government Area of Abia State, allegedly launched the attack and even kidnapped several young men who attempted to resist them.

However, the police authorities in the state have expressed ignorance about the incident. Irene Ugbo, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated, "We are not aware of such an attack. It has not been reported to us."

In a statement released by Chief Okon Odiong Ekpenyong Esu, a community leader of Ukwa Ibom-Efik Eburutu, the invasion was not an isolated incident but part of a recurring pattern fueled by territorial disputes and the desire to exploit the region's rich mineral resources, particularly limestone.

Ekpenyong Esu lamented the lack of adequate infrastructure and security measures in the community, which has left residents vulnerable to such attacks.

The statement further highlighted the urgent need for intervention from both the Federal and Cross River State governments to address the escalating violence and prevent further bloodshed in the area.

In response, Williams Bassey, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in the local government area, condemned the attack and echoed the call for swift government action to restore peace and security to the affected community.
