AFTER all the political manipulations, horse trading and intrigues, Representative Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, a Peoples’  Democratic Party (PDP) member from Sokoto State was today elected and sworn in as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He polled a total votes of 252 to beat his only opponent, Mulikat Adeola-Akande, who scored 90 votes.

Out of the total number of 360 members, 350 voted  while five abstained. The remaining five persons were absent.

Tambuwal was the immediate past deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives.

Also, the immediate past Chief whip of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha was elected the deputy speaker. Ihedioha was nominated by Sariki Adah, a PDP member from Sokoto State and was seconded by Usman Bello Kumo, another PDP member from Gombe State.
The deputy speaker’s  election was unopposed as the supporters of Adeola-Akande quickly announced that they had resolved that in the interest of harmony and peace in the House, they had decided not to nominate anybody for the position of deputy speaker.

Representative Friday Etulah (PDP, Edo State) who spoke for Mulikat supporters said that “Considering the mood of the House now, we have consulted and agreed that in view of the need for harmony, we have dropped the idea of nominating any other person for the position of deputy speaker.”

In a related development, David Mark has been re-elected president of the Seventh Senate session. Also re-elected was his deputy in the sixth Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.

Both were adopted during the inauguration of the seventh assembly. Their re-election was hardly unexpected, as both men got the endorsement of almost every senator before today's adoption.

This new guy looks like Bank-ole:

ok...350 voted but 252 and 90 does not give 350. Where are the remaining 8 votes? Not that it matters anyway. Just couldn't help noticing. Just hope history doesn't repeat itself  Angry
