In a series of operations targeting drug-related crimes, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained several individuals across different states in Nigeria, including Bayelsa, Lagos, Kaduna, and Adamawa.

Jennifer Iliya, a 28-year-old woman, was apprehended in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for her involvement in manufacturing and distributing cakes infused with illicit drugs, particularly cannabis sativa. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, revealed this development in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to Babafemi, Iliya was nabbed with a significant quantity of drugged cakes weighing 1.5kg during her arrest on Wednesday. This operation is part of NDLEA's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the region.

In a similar incident in Yenagoa on Sunday, March 10, a 20-year-old hair stylist named Josephine Odunu and a dispatch rider identified as Edesemi Ikporo were also arrested for their involvement in the production and distribution of drug-infused cakes.

Furthermore, at the Lagos airport, NDLEA officers apprehended a passenger named Yahaya Danjuma Oturah attempting to export 4,000 pills of tramadol 225mg to Malpensa, Italy, on an Ethiopian Airline flight. The illicit substance was concealed in women's clothing and granulated melon packed in the suspect’s backpack and another bag containing food items. Oturah, a frequent flyer, confessed to being hired as a courier for a fee of €700 upon successful delivery of the contraband in Italy.

In other operations, NDLEA operatives arrested suspects across different states. Joseph Dadik, 47, and Bensha Yari, 32, were apprehended with 24,180 ampoules of pentazocine injection weighing 135.5 kilograms in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna. Additionally, Adamu Umar, 18, was nabbed with 20.700kg of cannabis during a raid on his house in Shuware area of Mubi, Adamawa state.

Furthermore, NDLEA operatives seized a total of 310.7kg of cannabis in raids across parts of Mushin in Lagos state. This included 300kg recovered at Olatunji Street, Mushin, and an additional 10.7kg retrieved from two suspects, Tijani Wasiu and Suleiman Aisha, at Anifowose, Mushin.

These arrests underscore NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes and ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerians across the country.
